A special assembly was organized by the students of the Green Brigade on the occasion of the Earth Day on 23rd April 2019. The theme of the Earth Day 2019 celebrated on 22nd April 2019 was ‘PROTECT OUR SPECIES’. The students through their speeches and role play tried to portray the importance of all living beings in the environment. All living beings have an intrinsic value and each plays a unique role in the complex web of life. The message conveyed was that we must work together to protect endangered and threatened species: bees, coral reef, elephants, giraffes, insects, whales and more. The students undertook a pledge that they will try to incorporate all these in their lifestyles:
Educate and raise awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of millions of species and the causes and consequences of this phenomenon.
Try to protect broad groups of species as well as individual species and their habitats.
Try to embrace nature and its values incorporating the 5Rs- Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle in their daily lives.
Encourage individual actions such as adopting plant based diet and stopping the use of pesticides and herbicides.
